Marine Metallic HPL

Design high pressure laminate with mother of pearl effect and IMO proved quality as a 'Low Flame-Spread Surface Material'.
Made of several impregnated cellulose layers and melamine impregnated decor papers which are pressed together under pressure and heat. The back side is sanded for gluing.

Field of application

  • Universal applications to reduce fire load. For decorative ship interior fitting and fire protection (corridors, stairwells, wall panelling and emergency escape routes).
  • Metallic surfaces are specially good for vertical applications with a special need for design.

IMO Type Approval

Product standard

  • Metallic surface: leaned on EN 438-8

Core material

  • Fire-retardant compact laminate (brown)
  • Highly impact and moisture-resistant brown phenolic solid laminate. Fire-retardant to EN 13501-1.

Density

  • 1,500 kg/m³ ± 10 % (ISO 1183)

Marine Classification

  • Low Flame-Spread Surface Material (MED)
  • Low Flame-Spread Surface Material (US Coast Guard)
  • Low Flame Spread Surface Linings (Transport Canada)

Formaldehyde emission class

  • E1 (EN 717-1)

Cleaning and care

  • The surface can be cleaned with water and gentle cleaning agents. To remove stubborn stains, please observe the recommendations in the data sheet "Cleaning of HPL surfaces".

Product safety

  • The surface is physiologically safe, and approved for direct contact with food.
  • The decorative surface and the core consists of paper layers that are impregnated with thermosetting resins. The resins harden completely during the manufacturing process by heat and high pressure. They form a stable, resistant and non-reactive material.
  • We manufacture the panels without the use of halogens, heavy metals, preservatives, wood protectors or organic solvents.
  • This product is following the REACH regulation EG 1907/2006 an article. Following Article 7 it needs not to be registered.
  • The material is not rated as hazardous material.

Special

  • Other textures on request.
  • To reach the full metallic effect there is no Overlay used. Therefore this products should only be used for vertical applications.
  • It is recommended to order overlay for horizontal, heavy used surfaces in combination with metallic designs. Slight visual difference to the surface is possible without the overlay.
  • Holohedral metallic desigs can show because of light refraction certain optical area effects which also can be directional and slightly higher differences in the colour connection in comparison to classic plain colours.
  • Please consider that metallic designs react more sensitive to scratching and abrasion as well as to humidity as normal printed designs. The sensitivity of the surface increases with growing metallic content. The surface values of the relevant product standard are therefore only limited fulfilled.
  • Specially with light designs slight colour variations to melamine face boards in double paper construction are possible. Please contact us if a combination of both materials is required.

Processing

  • Please respect the recommendations of the GKV trade associaton for the processing of high pressure laminates.
  • For the production of composite elements we recommend a symmetric construction. This means both sides identical HPL. If backing material (also HPL) is used, there is a risk of shape distortion (bowing). Tests will be necessary.
  • Sufficient conditioning is required prior to installation and assembly. The premises themselves need to be air-conditioned according to future use.

Storage and handling

  • On all level surfaces (e.g. pallets), in dry, vented rooms.

Disposal

  • Energy recovery is recommended.
