Why PEFC?

1. Sustainability
The PEFC quality seal stands for sustainable, careful and responsible forest management. This means that our forests will be preserved for future generations – as the base of our existence, a workplace and a recreational area. The aim is the constant improvement of forest management, to preserve the forest and to safeguard its positive effects on the environment. PEFC represents the holistic approach to sustainability, and is based on and around integrative nature conservation. PEFC does not maximise one aspect of sustainability at the expense of the others; instead, its decision-making structures and standards guarantee the integration of all three components in certified forests.

2. Plausibility
Accreditation to international standards guarantees and maintains the independence of the certification points at PEFC. PEFC offers continuous and binding confirmation of the sustainable use of resources – something on which every consumer can rely. PEFC strives to promote pragmatic and cost-efficient sustainable forest management and the use of wood as an environmentally friendly raw material. PEFC is innovative, and is committed to the principle of continuous improvement.

3. Security of supply
As PEFC enables all forest owners, irrespective of the size of their operation, to participate fairly, and takes into account the range and variety of forest eco systems, of the cultural heritage and of ownership structures, PEFC is the market leader not only in Germany, but all over the world. No other certification system has such a large area of certified forestland. This means that PEFC guarantees a sufficient supply of wood and wood-based products from certified sustainably managed forests.
